The Pilliga Ultra in Coonabarabran, NSW from 18 to 20 September 2026 is a 50km ultra marathon in the rugged, wild, and beautiful terrain of the Pilliga Forest. Over the course of the weekend, you’ll be immersed in the beauty of the Pilliga Forest, get to know locals and learn more about what makes this forest so unique. The three-day event includes courses for everyone, including the challenging 50km Ultra, a 20km scramble across sandstone escarpments and a scenic 10km race. Or you can tackle all 3 in the Grand Slam. This event, organised by For Wild Places, raises funds to protect this sacred and significant forest.

The Goorooyaroo Off Road Half Marathon on 19 September 2026 is organised by Canberra Runners and forms part of their Winter Series. This cross country event is an out and back on dirt roads through Mulligans Flat and Goorooyarroo Nature Reserves. The 21.1km can be run in a relay team of 2, and there is also a 14km distance. The Winter Series events are held on Saturdays from late April until mid-September. The series includes 3 longer races at West Basin (16km), Stromlo Forest Park (16km) and the 21.1km off-road half marathon at Goorooyarroo Nature Reserve. Canberra Runners holds many races each year ranging from 1.6km to half marathons and a 100km multi-stage event. The club welcomes non-members to all club races for a fee. The Kokoda Challenge Sydney returns from 19 to 20 September 2026 for an unforgettable team-based adventure. Setting off from Helensburgh, your team of 3-4 people can choose to traverse the 18km, 48km or 96km course through the stunning Royal National Park and Heathcote National Park. The 96km event is to honour the distance of the real Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea. The goal is to finish as a complete team in honour of the spirit forged on the Kokoda Track in 1942: courage, endurance, mateship and sacrifice. The Rail Trail Run & Ride is held from 19 to 20 September 2026 on the picturesque North-East Rail Trail, between Scottsdale and the Billycock in Tasmania. There is an event to suit runners and riders of all experience levels, with distances ranging from 2km through to 54km, and options to run, ride, or both. The trail itself is a well-maintained path and a gradually undulating course, with the 54k course covering one longer up-hill/down-hill section. This event is hosted by the Rotary Club of Scottsdale in partnership with The Launceston Running Club.

The Run Upper Murray Trail Run on 19 September 2026 includes 33km, 16km, 9.5km and Kids' 3km races. Set near the picturesque town of Corryong, the largest township in the Upper Murray, the courses explore the well-defined fire trails around Mount Elliot in the Thowgla Valley. The 33km is a single loop course that takes runners through picturesque farmland and stunning native forests to the summit of Mt Elliot and beyond. The 16km is an out and back to the summit of Mt Elliot with stunning views over Corryong and beyond before applying a little skill to descend some steep track. 9.5km runners are quickly drawn into the Mt Elliot trail network with 440m of climbing and a technical descent off Mt Elliot. This course delivers a serious challenge with big views and punchy climbs. The Kids' 3km is for the emerging trail runners (12 years and under). This is a sibling event of Pub to Pelican.

Sydney's Backyard Ultra is based at the scenic St. Ives Showground, with the next event starting on 19 September 2026. A Backyard Ultra is a form of ultramarathon race where competitors must consecutively run a 6.71km course every hour, on the hour, in an epic showdown until only one remains. The course, based from the main oval, is 98% fire trail and grass with some tarmac. 180 Cadence

The Rover Trail Run on 19 September 2026 explores new, exciting and usually lesser known trails each year, as it "roves" through Far North Queensland. The 2026 event will explore trails in the Herberton area. Distances are to be confirmed.
